As a specialised design practice our team are super passionate in what they do. We have fun in the studio turning our clients dreams into reality and this always comes across in our projects.
Sam Walle
Our director Sam studied architecture at university and has been working as a lighting designer for 15 years. Sam has worked around the world (across 13 time zones!) on projects ranging from tiny homes to city master-planning.
Since setting up Dark Arts his focus has been on bringing international quality lighting design with a creative spin to the local market. The Dark Arts approach has been well received and has resulted in a fast-growing design-first lighting consultancy.
Nelson Cruickshank
Nelson is a UK born and raised artist and designer with an interest in photography, illustration and 3D design.
Having studied graphic design at university, Nelson brings a unique set of skills and perspective to lighting design.
Being still relatively fresh to New Zealand, Nelson spends most of his time getting up to date with Kiwi culture and enjoying erratic weather.
Aidan Johnson
Aidan is a New Zealand-born spatial design graduate from Massey University, bringing a fresh, detail-focused perspective to lighting design informed by his background in bespoke furniture design.
Being new to the industry, he is eager to learn, develop his skills, and create impactful lighting solutions.
